Photo Description
11/18/98 C From Hill: Original house: This is what the property looked like when it was purchased. You can see the chimney of original house (later torn down) near the center of the picture. The two large trees unfortunately had to be removed. The house on the right is Melissa's & Todor's (which was under construction at the time). (Next From Hill)
11/18/98 D Original house: master bedroom.
11/18/98 E Original house: bathroom.
11/18/98 F Original house: kitchen.
11/18/98 G Original house: lower level.
11/18/98 J From Lake: Original house. The house on the left is Melissa's and Todor's, under construction at the time. (Thispicture is actually a composite of two side-by-side images, combined using PaintShop Pro.) (Next From Lake)
11/18/98 K Original house: the lawn by the lake. The structure on the left is the original boat house; one wall held a stone barbeque.
1/23/99 Original house: near the north boundary. I sure hope poor Hamilton was a pet...
7/15/99 A Demolition of the original house.
7/15/99 B From Lake: Demolition of the original house. (Next From Lake)
7/31/99 From Lake: The empty site, after the initial earthwork. (Next From Lake)
8/1/99 From Hill: The empty site, after the initial earthwork. (Next From Hill)
9/10/99 A From Hill: Pile driving. The piling consists of 103 individual steel piles. (Next From Hill)
9/10/99 B Closeup of the pile driver. This machine hits the top of the pile about 7 times per second. The first pass takes less than 30 seconds; the second pass (inserting another rod inside the pile?) takes several minutes.
9/26/99 A From Hill: The wooden forms into which concrete will be poured to create the foundation. (Next From Hill)
9/26/99 B A closeup view of one of the wooden forms. Inside the form is a latticework of rebar (reinforcing steel bars). In the middle of the picture you can see the tops of two piles, with steel caps on them. This is the eastern foundation wall; the camera is facing north.
9/26/99 C A further closeup of the previous picture.
9/26/99 D A set of piles on the southeast corner of the building. The piles are driven into the ground at two different angles, for maximum anchorage.
10/2/99 A From Hill: The day after concrete was poured into the forms. The forms were removed earlier today. (Next From Hill)
10/2/99 B From Lake: The day after concrete was poured into the forms. The forms were removed earlier today. (Next From Lake)
10/12/99 The space between the concrete has been filled with gravel. Underneath the gravel are perforated PVC pipes, used to drain water from under the foundation. The white pipes in this picture connect between those perforated pipes and a water spout that protrudes from the retaining wall by the lake. (Next From Hill)
10/16/99 A From Hill: Some of the forms for the concrete walls have been built. (Next From Hill)
10/16/99 B Forms for the concrete walls in the garage.
10/16/99 C Helical anchors are being drilled into the hill (at the west side of the main house). These anchors are twisted (0.5 to 1 revolution per second) into the ground, up to 30 feet or so. They're used because regular piles didn't work in this case.
10/24/99 B From Hill: Concrete forms are under construction. (Next From Hill)
10/24/99 C From Lake: Concrete forms are under construction. (Next From Lake)
10/30/99 A From Hill: More concrete forms. (Next From Hill)
10/30/99 C From Lake: More concrete forms. (Next From Lake)
11/6/99 A From Hill: More concrete forms. (Next From Hill)
11/6/99 B The main building, with "Mirafi" drain tile. You can see the most of the helical anchors that keep the west wall of the mail attached to the hill.
11/6/99 C These are the bolts that anchor the west wall of the main building to the helical anchors.
11/6/99 D This is the south-east corner of the building, at ground level. you can see the black asphalt emulsion that was applied to the concrete, and the "Mirafi" draintile (which is used to allow water to drain down the side of the building below grade).
11/13/99 A From Hill: More concrete forms, and the beginning of framing (notice the vertical steel beams in the lower level of the main building). (Next From Hill)
11/13/99 B From Lake: The beginning of framing. (Next From Lake)
11/21/99 A From Lake: Framing continues. (Next From Lake)
11/21/99 B Concrete slab was poured (over gravel and insulation) to form floor of lower level.
11/21/99 C From Hill: Framing continues. (Next From Hill)
11/25/99 A Concrete forms for the garage are now fully built, waiting for the concrete pour.
11/25/99 B From Lake: Framing continues. Most of the second level now has a rough floor. (Next From Lake)
11/25/99 C From Hill: Framing continues. Most of the second level now has a rough floor. (Next From Hill)
11/25/99 D The music/pool room, covered for the first time.
11/25/99 E The mud room (appropriately named on a wet day like today).
12/4/99 A The forms on the garage have been stripped.
12/4/99 B View from the northwest corner of the master bathroom, on an uncharacteristically sunny morning.
12/4/99 C From Hill: Framing continues. The second floor is getting walls. (Next From Hill)
12/12/99 A From Hill: Framing continues. The bridge is in place. (Next From Hill)

2/5/00 A From Hill: Guest/garage roof is in place, but torch-down roofing isn't applied yet. (Next From Hill)
2/19/00 A From Hill: The entire house is now scaffolded. (Next From Hill)
2/26/00 A From Hill: Composite of two pictures, taken from the south-west corner of the house. You can see the concrete wall has been sacked & patched. (Next From Hill)
2/26/00 B The north-west corner of the house, as seen from the street. That's the plumber's van. (Toby from Lake Stevens Plumbing seems to work on the house almost every Saturday.)
2/26/00 C From Lake: The entire house is now scaffolded. (Next From Lake)
2/26/00 D The south-east corner of the house.
2/26/00 E The garage, as seen from the north-west corner. The doorway at the left goes into the back hall.
2/26/00 F The north guest bedroom, as seen from the south guest bedroom.
2/26/00 G The south guest bedroom, as seen from the north guest bedroom. The divider on the ceiling (between the two doors) is where a partition will go; in the middle of the partition will be a pair of pocket doors.
2/26/00 H The back hall (a sort of "causeway" between the guest/garage building and the main house), as viewed while walking from the garage to the kitchen area.
2/26/00 I Composite of four pictures, showing the dining room/living room area on the third level. The gas fireplace has been installed; the TV will go to the right of it. (The ceiling isn't actually curved -- that's just an artifact of my wide-angle lens.)
2/26/00 J Composite of four pictures, showing the bedroom area (on the left), the door to the office (in the middle) and the storage/exercise area (to the right), on the second level. At the very far right is the entrance to the master suite from the stairway.
2/26/00 K The office, as viewed from the north wall. The bars you see through the L-shaped window are part of the scaffolding. The area on the right will contain cabinets.
2/26/00 L The master bathroom. The door in the left-middle part of the picture (you can see scaffolding through the door) will exit to a landscaped area between the guest/garage building and the main house.
2/26/00 M The pool table and bar area (on the left) and music area (on the right), as seen from the south-east corner of the music/game room.
2/26/00 N The pool table area (center of the picture, toward the far wall) and the bar (right side of the picture), as seen from the north-east corner of the music/game room.
